Trinity River Fish Report
12-5-2008
General Information:
Flows are 300 cfs out of Lewiston Dam; these low flows will remain in effect throughout the winter.
Reports from the past few days on the Trinity have been very good. There are good numbers of fish spread out now from Lewiston down to Pigeon Pt, including some beautiful specimens breaking the 35 inch mark. Conditions may be tough with cold, clear, very low water, but the fish are there and our guides have been hooking good numbers nearly every day.
It's still steelhead fishing, with tough conditions, so there's no guarantees right now until we get some rain, but we've had the best reports over the past 3 days that we've had all season.
The river's in good shape, and the fall colors are just starting to pop out. Just beautiful, with some nice fishing besides! Rain might affect some of the lower accesses on the river, but it should remain fishable closer to Dunsmuir. Flies:
?Ģ Pheasant Tail Nymphs #16-18
?Ģ Micro Mayflies #16-18
?Ģ Red Copper John #16-18
?Ģ Olive Zaddis #14
?Ģ Beaded Z-Wing - Green #16
?Ģ Dark Lord #14-16
?Ģ Superfloss Rubberlegs #6
?Ģ Zebra Midge #16-20
- Black
- Red
?Ģ Copper Beaded Frostbite Midge #16-18
?Ģ GB Hares Ear #10 or #16
?Ģ BWO Dries #18-20
The Fly Shop's?? Tips: When nymphing on the Upper Sacramento River, always use more weight than you think you need to get the flies down to the fish. This time of year small flies in the pocket water works best. If you're not ticking the bottom from time to time (yes, this means losing a few flies), you're probably not getting down to where the fish are feeding.

12-5-2008Today we worked our way up the line. We were looking for school size Tuna and kelps hopefully holding Dorado. We got into a stop early this morning on little Tuna and Yellowtail. The problem was everything was about 6 lbs. Needless to say we did not stay very long. We worked our way outside and up and found numerous large kelps . Unfortunately these kelps were not holding much of anything. It made for a long day of finding...... Read More
