Virginia Lake Fishing Report

9-30-2019
Carolyn Webb

This will be the last report until October 12th even though we will be closed for the winter on October 9th.

Weather: -   (7am Temp  Sunrise/Sunset)

Sunday 41º 6:43/6:55 Clear with a good riffle breeze (best for fishing high elevation waters), clouded up around 2pm and moved east no precip.

Monday 37º 6:44/6:54 Few scattered clouds early am and more moving through around 2pm and hiding the sun off and on all day. 6pm temp was 48 degrees, brrrr!

Tuesday 33º 6:45/6:52 Clear and cold; aspens are changing daily with deeper yellows in more exposed areas along the road.

Wednesday 43º 6:46/6:50 Clear and a bit warmer, not much breeze.

Thursday 44º 6:47/6:49 Clear and calm, no ripple breeze early.

Friday 48º 6:48/6:47 Warmer, and windy with a storm predicted Saturday night, we'll see, but if the wind continues it will drop the temperature and it could happen.

If you have fished any of the Eastern Sierra roadside waters this summer and was disappointed with the fishing, I would suggest you contact the Department of Fish and Wildlife and bombard the head office in Sacramento. They will listen to the anglers that purchase fishing licenses not the businesses that benefit from the stocking.

Go to : CA Department of Fish and wildlife's web-site below.
https://www.dfg.ca.gov then click on "contact us" then go to middle column "A General Concern / Comment" by calling (916) 445-0411 or click the "emailing" and fill out the contact form (https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Explore/Director/Email).

The stock truck arrived.

BAIT: Crawlers, premium Pautzke's early am (as in the old days) no kidding. Hopper all over the meadow.

LURES: Red/gold Buoyant, small Super Duper's, Red Devil's also small size, Rapala's on the big lake, and always the 1/8th gold Kastmaster

FLY AND BUBBLE:  .Dries were working for about 5 days this week.

FLY RODS: Poxyback Callibaetis, olive Doc's special size 12, prince, midges, Zug Bug, Callibaetis Cripple, some dries are still working like Mosquitoes, Adams parachute, black gnat's, Para Gnats.

BACKCOUNTRY: Dries and small lures, similar to last week.

NOTE: If the trout bleeds don’t throw it back into the lake, it will die and IT ATTRACKS BEARS. If you care about the resource please be careful when releasing fish back into the water.
