New Melones Fishing Report

9-30-2019
Glory Hole Sports Staff

New Melones Reservoir's current lake level is 1055.25 and 31.75 ft. from full. The water level on New Melones has remained in the 1055 elevation for the last 21 days and holding steady.Water Temperature is 70d. Water clarity is improving with the cooler weather dropping water temps.  The fish cleaning station is closed at Angels Cove with water line breaks interfering with operations.

Anglers FYI: For anyone with a potential lake record please call us at the store and hopefully we can send someone to weigh, photograph and measure the catch at the lake. GHS is the unofficial recorder of lake records for New Melones, and we understand there is sometimes conflicting interest in the welfare of the catch, whether or not to release the potential record, sacrificing your place as a record holder for the lake.
We do promote catch and release. For potential lake records, record the statistics of the fish... length, girth, weight and photographed at the lake before releasing her. If indeed we can verify the information that is provided, such as a witness, comparing the scale used with ours, a photograph with the fish hanging from the scale and can see the scale weight, etc...then we can accept this as proof. If your catch has expired than indeed bring it in to GHS so we can record it here, and you can have it mounted!

TROUT
Recent reports of trout for anglers trolling the lake have been very positive the last couple weeks with limits of Rainbows and an occasional Brown trout.

Jim Dirickson of Angels Camp went out on Melones 9/27 and did a smackdown on 4- 5.5 lb. trout with a smaller kicker. Jim was using a shad patterned Rapala with a silver flasher.
Couple other photos of last weeks success.

BASS
With the fall bass bite ready to break loose on Melones, look for bass targeting schools of shad, on lake points using senkos, jigs, and plastics on the fall. Late evening break out the crankbaits and swimbaits.

CATFISH
Glory Hole Sports annual CATFISH CONTEST starts Oct. 1st. There is still room in the contest for additional sign-ups. John Wilson of Angels Camp brought this nice 8.5 lb. catfish in from a depth of 15 ft. fishing off shore. Good luck to all the anglers that signed up.
