EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is running at about 225 cfs today. We have had some crazy wind the last couple days and it has pushed a lot of algae down towards the dam on the Reservoir. This has caused the river to run pretty green yesterday and today. Prior to that the fishing was pretty good down there so hopefully the green will blow through and the river will clear up soon. We’ve been gettiing some pretty good reports from both the Calfornia and Nevada sides of the river with some anglers reporting 20 fish days. There are still some caddis in the water but probably not for too long as the water temps drop. We have started to hear about a little bit of streamer action which is good too.

Patterns to try: san juan worm, blow torch, squirmie wormy, rainbow warrior, silver streak, dark lord, WD-40, micro mayfly, radiation baetis, LaFontaines deep sparkle pupa, Fox’s poopah, z-wing caddis, buckskin caddis, rubberlegs, dead drift crayfish, zuddler, dali lama, double bunny.

SCEIRINE RANCH

The ranch fished excellent this week with several anglers reporting 20+ fish days down there. There has been a little bit of streamer action but most of the fish we heard about were caught with dark lords, San Juan worms and rubberlegs. We’re starting to get booked up a bit in advance down there so if you want to reserve some time be sure to give us a call in advance.

HUNEWILL POND

We didn’t have anyone on the pond this week for a report. Hopefully now that the weather seems to be cooling down for real the weeds should start to go away and the fishing out there should improve.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

The Reservoir was still a little tough this week, there were some fish caught but it seemed like not as many as you’d expect for this time of the year. The perch are still biting on the troll with some rainbows and even a few browns thrown into the mix but the action isn’t quite as hot as it should get when the water cools down just a bit more. As the algae and weeds start to go away the fishing should get better and better out there.

KIRMAN LAKE

Didn’t hear anything from Kirman this week, we’ll keep you posted when we do.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins have also had some mixed reports with some anglers reporting a few nice fish here and there while some are reporting struggling to get anything. It seems that early in the morning and late in the evening are the best times to fish, either casting lures or bait from the shore or trolling spoons and Rapalas from boats. We haven’t talked to any fly anglers lately but I would thing that stripping buggers with sinking lines should produce some fish up there as well.

WEST WALKER RIVER

The West is still kicking out some fish in the Highway 108 area as well as through the canyon along Highway 395. As of a couple days ago the hoppers were still out but with the cold and snowy weather we’ve had the last 2 days they might be close to done for the season. Fly anglers might need to start drifting nymphs and buggers to get into some fish while lure and bait anglers can go with Panther Martins, Roostertails, eggs and crawlers.

VIRGINIA LAKES

We had a couple better reports from the Virginias this week with some anglers reporting doing well with Thomas Bouyants, Sierra Slammers as well as power bait and pinched crawlers. There were other anglers who reported not doing quite as good but the folks that were working the shore line or getting around in tubes and put some time in seemed to get into some good fish.

RANDOM INFORMATION:

Sept. 29, 2019 - Last night we got the first snow of the season, I’m sure the deer hunters are liking that! Things are cooling down now and the hunting and fishing should start getting real good from here on out!

Sept. 15, 2019 - The DFW is done with this round of transplanting, sounds like their totals were right around 850 brookies from Silver Creek to Kirman, nothing over 6 or 7 inches. They’re coming back later next month for another go around so hopefully there will be another good batch of brookies making the trip.

Sept. 8, 2019 - The DFW is in the process of transplanting some brook trout from Silver Creek to Kirman Lake like they did last year, as of today they had transplanted over 500 fish and they still have 4 or 5 days to go. Unfortunately it sounds like Kirman will not get an allottment of fingerling brooks this year but we did hear that there was a load of cutthroat put in there last October, and maybe they’ll get some more this year. We’ll let you know if we hear anything.
