Klamath Steely Trout on fire, Salmon coming

9-21-2019

Salmon season on the upper Klamath always begins sometime in the middle to later part of September. This year it is looking to be the later part. Yesterday, my client Jarad wanted to fish for Steely Trout rather than Salmon and had outstanding day catching and releasing fat hard fighting fish.

Using a variety of methods (Fly rod, casting plugs, back trolling bait and plugs, bouncing roe) Jarad easily caught and released over 20 fish, a dozen of which were fat 2 to 3 pounders. Drag ripping smashing strikes, these Steely Trout are clearly gearing up for the return of the Salmon and gorging themselves on easy meals. Checkout the VIDEOS and pictures from a gorgeous day on the Klamath. The weather was darn near perfect!!

Fall/Winter Steelhead on Klamath is going to be fantastic. When those Salmon begin to spawn it should be wide a open bite heading into November. Check out my Booking calendar and don't miss out on an epic time on the Klamath.
