Channel Islands Sportfishing
Today’s Fish Count: 10 Boats and 240 Anglers.
1,666 Rockfish, 686 Whitefish, 49 Sheephead, 37 Lingcod, 31 Sculpin, 10 Barracuda, 1 Yellowtail, 1 Bonito, 15 Sand Bass, 79 Calico Bass, 4 Halibut, and 1 White Seabass.
Great weather for both days this weekend, but today was especially nice. Half the day in cool overcast conditions, and the other half with warm sunny skies. The top water fishing could have been better, but thankfully the Calicos and bottom fish are biting really well. If not live bait, plastics and iron jigs are working decent. Barracuda, bass, and of course Yellows love to chase a jig. The captains are reporting seeing a lot of fish puddling on the surface, and reacting to chum, but they just aren’t biting yet. Something needs to turn these fish on, whether it is tide or temp, or maybe moon phase. What makes these fish go from curious to wide open “foamers” is a mystery to us all. Thankfully bottom fishing is good, and the potential is there. It’s only a matter of time!
