A 17-pound, 10-ounce largemouth bass was landed at Corona Lake by Randy Muirhead of Glen Ivy last week setting a new lake record. It is also one of the best bass landed in Southern California this year.

Muirhead said the 17-10, caught on a plastic worm, was the smallest of four bass he hooked that evening. The smallest. He said the bass bite has been very good over the past week, and he also landed bass at 12 1/2 and 12 3/4 pounds in recent days. All of the bass have been released back into the lake.

"I don't know what was going on that night, but there were a bunch of big fish and they were all hitting. I had one fish rip the hook right off my lure, a jointed crank plug," said Muirhead, who fessed up to catching and releasing a lot of bass over the past month and wasn't all that thrilled about telling about the catches.

"Oh man, I don't want to tell about that lake. Everyone will be out there now. Next time I'll keep my mouth shut," laughed Muirhead.
