Saturday's Free Kids Fishing Day at the Mt Shasta Fish Hatchery was a glowing success with full stringers and smiling faces for all the young anglers. The CDFW provided a great setting in the shadow of Mt Shasta with the ponds filled with willing and hungry rainbow trout. Some of the trout in the ponds were pushing over 10 pounds, with one proud angler bringing an 11 pounder to the scales. In all honesty I don't know if the angler or the volunteer who helped net the fish was more excited.
The good news is there are still more fish to be caught in these ponds including many trout in excess of 5 and 8 pounds and there are two more event days for youngsters to try there luck. July 6 and August 17 will be the next event dates, both again at the Mt Shasta Fish Hatchery. Make your plans now to attend as they will be lots of fun and as always free loaner tackle and bait will be provided to those without their own gear and volunteers will be on hand at the ponds to assist new anglers and families. As always new volunteers are always welcomed and appreciated.
