Not much production in the opening bonus round that began a mere four hours after clearing Pt Loma. The annual Larry Brown/Dave Berutich 7 day went through the whirlwind rigging routine then jumped right in the saddle targeting bluefin in the 50 - 100 pound range. Once again the trick was not to find them; that part is too easy. Catching them is another story. Finding the right school at the right time proves more challenging than one can imagine. But when one does land on the right spot the payoff is worth it. So much so that despite today’s lack of catching success we are investing one more day on the offshore bluefin grounds. Good weather, full moon, and an ocean full of Bluefin. As the saying goes “it all looks good on paper”. We’ll see.

Today’s image features Royal Star angler Gabe Loiseau with this 83 pound dandy that started his trip right!
