Wow, this lake just keeps surprising me after all these years. These fish were eating some of the biggest bugs I can ever recall fishing on this lake. I'm talking pyramid sized 10 chironomids. Finally got to bust out "big red" and it worked like a champ. Not happening all the time, but when you see those gigantic midges (see pic below) it's time to try bigger and uglier. If anybody is interested in seeing these new patterns I've been developing shoot me an email or better yet, book a trip and I'll show you in person!
Most of the fish are still congregated in the North arm. I scoured the lake looking for fish yesterday to see if they had been collecting anywhere else, and the sad reality is they haven't. So for now, we're all stuck fishing together along Green Banks, Six Bays, Layton and sometimes Sandy still on the east side. The fish are moving out deeper, and if you aren't you'll probably catch perch all day instead of trout. I've been anywhere from 14-19ft now, and yes, it's time for sliding indicators again if you're going out deeper than 15ft. Bottom line is the last week or so has been phenomenal regardless of the weather!
I'm already starting to book trips for July, so if you want to get out there book soon!
