Lake Sabrina Boat Landing Staff
So sorry about the report last week – I had a hitch in my get-along.
Mother Nature definitely didn’t want us to forget her this week – lots of fun weather. Beautiful sunny days, then rain, slush, snowball snow, lightening, thunder, big flake snow and lots of it and then back to beautiful sunny days. And it looks like we’ve got the same instore for us this coming week. We woke to 14” to 16” of snow on Friday, it was a pretty quiet Friday. We stayed hunkered down by the woodstove that day. Pretty much by Sunday that snow was gone.
The Lake was icing off fairly well prior to last week’s storm. The manmade part of the Lake is totally ice-free, but may have some skim ice in the early morning. We’ve got open water behind the Island in the first natural Lake. There’s open water showing in the back natural Lake over by Little George Inlet, but is still iced-over where the Lake narrows down by Cookie’s Point. With the cooler temps, the run-off has shut down a bit and the Lake is not rising. We’re hoping that will change and we’ll have boats on the Lake by Memorial Weekend – just need 6’.
If you’re fishing, might want to try back behind what is normally the Island – can’t really tell you what’s working cuz haven’t had many fisherpeople out there yet.
Hikers:
Please check the weather report prior to heading into the backcountry for an overnighter or two. Had an individual go in last Monday and got stuck in the storm. Going in he had a hard time finding the trail and an even harder time finding it after the snow storm. Might also want to hike with a buddy. Sure would like to thank Patti, Mark and Scott from Aspendell for hiking in a helping this guy out!
The Café did open on Friday, May 10th on Friday for a couple of hours in the am – just too quiet to keep it open. Saturday, we worked getting the parking lot cleared out so weren’t walking thru snow. MaMa’s Day, we were open 7am to 4pm – Thank you to all you came up!
Starting May 17th, the Store will be open every day from 7am to 7pm. The Café, will be opened every day but Wednesdays from 7am to 11am for breakfast and 11am to 4pm from lunch and we’ll have homemade pie and homemade ice cream.
It will be a few weeks before Department of Fish and WildLife get down to the Lake to stock – stay tuned.
Don’t forget MULE DAYS is just around the corner. May 21st thru May 26th 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of this one of a kind celebration of the American Mule! Bishop Mule Days Celebration is tough to explain if you’ve never attended…it’s part serious competition, part wild-west show and ALL fun for everyone! This year’s event will feature exciting arena shows, country western concerts, BBQ’s and of course the Main Street Parade. It’s free to stop by the Tri-County Fairgrounds to browse the dozens of terrific vendors and check out the displays. On-site camping is available. Check out https://muledays.org.
If you’re looking for something to do while in Bishop, check out the Bishop Chamber of Commerce Website at https://www.bishopvisitor.com/ for lots of fun things to do for all ages.
21 Great Lodging Options. Whether on a relaxing fishing trip, outdoor adventure, or just passing through, Bishop is a wonderful place to stay. Find a room at a downtown Bishop Hotel, Hostel, Inn, Bed & Breakfast or venture up to Bishop Creek for a wonderful cabin experience.
Make sure you wear some kind of sun protection – the sun and reflection off the snow, ice and water will do a number on your skin and eyeballs! AND DON’T FORGET A JACKET!
