The Chico chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation held its' annual dinner last week, which included presentation of the "Chuck Graves Award", named for the DFG biologist who is considered the father of California's wild turkey program. It is given for achievements in the field of wild turkey conservation, and is presented by Graves' son, Bryan Graves of Chico.
This years' winner was none other than Jeff Mott, manager of the Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve. "I felt very honored to receive the award", said Mott. "Past winners like Bob Post have done so much for conservation. The award gives me motivation to keep trying."
Mott added, "We have our turkey hunters all lined up for the hunt season on the BCCER. We are now offering archery hunts since the spring season was extended. We will also be offering archery deer this year which is new to our program."
