Lots of tuna and yellowtail are biting for anglers heading out for multi-day trips out of San Diego. Avid anglers David Klein and Steve Mudaris of Chico just returned from a five-day adventure aboard the Qualifier 105 out of Point Loma Sportfishing. "We had a blast" said Klein. "The yellowtail fishing was red-hot off San Pablo Bay, we had our trip limits in less than two days of fishing. Most were caught on live bait, but some were caught on jigs and I even got a couple on a popper."

"Then we headed out to Guadalupe Island, and I caught nine out of the 34 yellowfin tuna that came aboard the boat. I also caught one of only two wahoo for the trip, a very unusual catch for Guadalupe. The wahoo weighed 74 pounds, and is my first-ever of the species and my biggest fish ever."

"Some dorado were caught as well. We saw a few of Guadalupe's famous great white sharks near the boat, including a 16-footer. Only a few fish were lost to the sharks."

Klein added, "The boat's largest tuna weighted 32 pounds, and the largest yellowtail close to 50 pounds. My wahoo did not count in the jackpot because it was caught trolling."

The Department of Fish and Game planted catchable-size trout this week in the following area waters: Butte County- DeSabla Reservoir, [Next week Thermalito Forebay]; Plumas County- Feather River North Fork Almanor; Shasta County- Baum Lake, Lower-Upper Burney Creek, McCumber Reservoir, Middle-Upper Hat Creek, Sacramento River, Whiskeytown Lake; Siskiyou County- Castle Lake, Cold Creek, Kangaroo Lake, Lake Siskiyou, Lily Pad Lake, Sacramento River, South Fork Sacramento River, Wagon Creek.
