Big Spring Flows on The Truckee River

4-15-2019
Matt Koles

After Mondays storm, high pressure looks to build in for the remainder of the month and we should have some nice weather. Been a lot of wind, rain, and snow.

Yes, flows are big. They will stay big. They’ve been pretty steady at about 3,700 k here in the Hirsch. Clarity is actually really good. We’re having a good slow melt.

We’ve been getting them. Not big number days, but man, some big fish for sure. Just how it is when the water is UP. It’s up for sure, and will stay high into July. Fish the slow water dudes, not anything moving faster than a walking pace.

Hit them with some streamers, hit them with some nymphs. When I mean nymphs, I’m talking nymphs they can see and pick up in this big water. They don’t give a shit about your sz #18 micro may floating by.

Been having a lot of fun guiding lately. Maybe it’s the more sleep now that the girls are older, maybe it’s the yoga, ha ha. We’ll see how I feel in August.

Look for another High Water Clinic coming soon.
