Exotic Day on the Mirage

9-6-2008
John Thompson

What a day we had on our SFR charter aboard Captain Joe Villareal's MIRAGE out of PORT HUENEME. With everyone there on time we were soon underway and given our safety briefing by Capt Tucker and then had our raffle for some SFR T-shirts. We also had a $50 gift certificate off a custom made rod from BOBS SPORTING GOODS for the jackpot winner.

Everyone was up before grey light and soaking some squid, I was lucky enough to be the first one to hook-up and it was a schoolie sized White Seabass before grey light. As the sun strated to appear and the smell of bacon was in the air, we started to pick a few White Seabass and halibut. We also mangaged a couple Baracuda and Bonito's, Yellowtail to go into the mix. We put 7 halibut on the deck from 25 to 38 pounds, the envy of the day was a 43+ pound Yellowtail, which is the biggest I've ever witnessed coming on the deck. Our final count for the day was 10 White Seabass, 7 Halibut, 2 Yellowtail, 2 Barracuda, 2 Bonito, 220 Rockfish, 52 Whitefish and 1 Sheephead.

You can now make online reservation's for the MIRAGE and clicking on their schedule or you can call Gail or Dave at 805-488-2212. Thanks to Captain Joe and the crew for a great day of fishing. If you would like any of these pictures you can email me at john@sportfishingreport.com and I'll get them out to you.
