Disembarking his 30 anglers at H&M Landing September 7, Red Rooster III skipper Andy Cates said he had a good short trip for mixed fish.
The single jackpot winner proved to be two anglers when they tied at the scales. A home-schooled golfer of 11, Dawson Cox of Yuma got a 29.9-pound yellowfin tuna on a sardine and a size two Mutu hook. He used 30-pound line on a Penn 500 reel and a Penn Slammer six and a half-foot rod.
Curtis Thompson of Los Alamitos had a 29.9-pound albacore that ate a sardine on 30-pound P-Line, a Newell 444 reel and a seven-foot Calstar rod.
