DONNER:
Currently Donner will be one of the only local stillwater options as the thin layer of ice starts to recede back and parking access opens up. The boat ramp still has a hefty amount of snow and unless it gets plowed it is still a ways from being used. This time of year shore anglers can try their luck for rainbows and the occasional mackinaw coming in shallow. Lake Level - 36% of cap.

RECOMMENDED GEAR:
Lures: Kastmasters, Rapalas, Large spoons and spinners. Bait: Floating Worms off bottom, Powerbait in chartreuse or salmon eggs

BOCA:
Boca reservoir still has ice; however, we are not recommending ice fishing this late in the year due to varying ice conditions. Lake Level - Frozen.

STAMPEDE:
Stampede remains inaccessible due to snow on both Hobart Mills Rd. and Stampede Dam Rd. Lake Level - 86% of cap.

PROSSER:
Prosser remains iced over; However, we have no recent reports on ice conditions here and are not recommending ice fishing. Lake Level - Frozen.

Lakes Basin:
TRUCKEE RIVER
Big water should not deter you from fishing this time of year as early season can be one of the best times to go. With most of the water coming out of Lake Tahoe, the river is running clear and fishing smaller BWO and Midge patterns is still an option. Skwala stones are starting up and are the big calorie option for these fish and should not be overlooked. Worms also tend to work well during times of high water. Remember to use a significant amount of weight and target the slower water to find the trout! The patient angler might even find a hatch on top of skwalas mid-day or BWO’s on overcast days.

*LITTLE TRUCKEE RIVER
The road to the Little Truckee remains snowed in and access will be limited here. Those able to get out will find good hatches of Winter Stones, BWO’s, Midges and a few Skwalas. These fish are notoriously picky and a light leader, stealthy approach and appropriate fly selection will be necessary!

PRYAMID LAKE:
Fishing at Pyramid Lake switches from a size game to a numbers game as fish move in to shallower water in anticipation for spawn. Try indicator fishing using midges in red, black or wine or balanced leeches in Black or Olive. Stripping streamers is another good option right now using Buggers, Beetles, or general purpose streamers in olive white or black.
