Rockfishing Northern Style aboard the Queen of Hearts

8-22-2008
John Thompson

I headed up to HALF MOON BAY early Thursday evening looking forward to the nexts days fishing aboard the QUEEN OF HEARTS. I arrived with fishing partner John Knoble around midnight and we had a few hour nap in the car prior to boarding. We were woke up by car doors and folks greeting each other and talking about the days trips and the weather reports. We were greeted by Capt Bob Ingles and were soon getting our safety briefing and the plans for the day, which was to run along the coast line and do some rockfishing. After the safety briefing we held our ever popular raffle for some great prizes from FISHWORKS , CATCHY TACKLE and some SFR T-shirts. The water was pretty swelly, we had 8-10 foot swells which made the fishing really tough, but we all seemed to master holding the rail with one hand and pole in other. We were metering lots of fish around, but as luck would have it, most of them were suffering from lockjaw. We did manage to get 178 rockfish and 4 vermillion before the day was over, with the jackpot going to Beverly Seltzer for a very nice 8 lb red vermillion rockfish. Thanks to Sherri and Bob Ingles for their hospitality and a fun day of fishing with a great bunch of fisherman. If you would like any of these pictures, you can email me at john@sportfishingreport.com and I'll get them out to you.
