Channel Islands Sportfishing Mid-Day Report:

We could not be more excited that Opening Day of Rockfish Season has finally arrived! We have 8 Sportfishing boats on the water today in search of good quality bottom fish. We’ve started to receive some early reports from the Captains. Local-island boats reported a slow but steady start to the morning with a hot early-afternoon bite on Reds and Grouper. The outer-island boats also reported nice shallow-water rock fishing to kick off the season. We still have availability to book your reservation this weekend and get in on some of this early season action!

We continue to monitor the California Gray Whale migration along our coastline with Whale Watching Excursions departing daily through the end of April. Captain Robert on the Ranger 85 called in an early report with sightings of 5 California Gray Whales, 300 Pacific White-Sided Dolphins, and 175 Common Dolphins with more time to spare!

Expect our final tally on fish counts to be reported this evening. Stay tuned for an exciting season ahead!
