Many of Our Anglers are Having Great Luck Trout Fishing
2-17-2019
Del Valle Marina
The lake temp here at Del Valle is still in the lower 50’s to high 40’s as the rain continues to raise the lake level. Many of our anglers are having great luck trout fishing, the mice tail is the dominant bait out here either the florescent orange and chartreuse or, the pink with white head are the favored colors to use, corn yellow Powerbait is another bait that works well for the trout out here, from shore most of the action is taking place along the east beach shoreline or right next to the boat launch ramp. By boat many of our fisherman love to hit the coves out in Swallow Bay, Badger Cove is by far the favorite cove for our fisherman. If you want to toss lures, small shad imitations like Kastmasters or tiny spinner baits work great for the trout, alternatively small jerk baits can get the trout to bite. The bass bite is starting to pick up as the small and largemouth start their pre-spawn feed. Weightless nightcrawlers casted along the shoreline can pick them up on the drop, also you can use smaller Senkos or even switch to crank baits or something with some more movement to it. If you like catfish the rainy season is the time to fish for them. Anchovies and chicken liver are the best stink baits to get the catfish moving, From shore you can target any of the sharp points along the shoreline, Although the mobility of a boat can really up your catch ratio, find any fallen trees in the water provide great structure for one to target the catfish. The Striped Bass are also biting out here with the best bait being anchovies to get these fish to attack. Many of the stripers are running along the marina to the lower narrows so trolling large swimbaits such as Huddlestons, savage gears, and s wavers these are the only lures that can really get these fish the bite because they imitate the planted trout that come from Mt. Lassem and the Dept of fish and game.
