Colder temperatures does not always mean poor fishing. Winter fishing can be electric and with a little knowledge of how colder weather changes a river’s ecology you can find and land some of the biggest fish in the system.
RFSGuide, Mike Anderson will be teaching a clinic on winter fishing the Truckee River. Our clinic is designed to help you gain the knowledge to be successful during the winter months.
The Clinic will be separated into a classroom session and an on the river session, the class will be 4 hours and includes fishing.
Valid Nevada fishing licenses are not provided and are required before the clinic. After the Clinic students are encouraged to stick around ask questions and continue to fish with Mike.
Class is limited to 6 anglers to maximize the learning/fun environment
Laying and Staying Warm Colder weather requires a different level of planning as far as laying and staying warm. From head to toe Mike will cover the tips and tricks he has learned from years of fishing and guiding the Truckee River in the winter.
Gear, Techniques, and Leader Designs A lot of the gear you use in the summer is perfect for winter fishing, and with some modifications can be changed to be more effective for winter fishing. Mike will teach you how and why these changes are necessary to make winter fishing more effective. Fly Choice and Entomology Colder water means different bugs and food options available for hungry trout. Mike will go over his favorite patterns for winter fishing, and why they’re so effective Reading Water for Winter Trout Fish are cold blooded and will move throughout the water system depending on the rivers temperature. Mike will explain in detail how to target trout in colder water and will explain how weather can affect fishing from a day to day basis.
