The Striped Bass Fishing Remains Stable

11-8-2018
California Delta Chambers & Visitors Bureau

The Striped Bass fishing remains stable out on the California Delta waterways where recently several larger fish were caught weighing up to 30 pounds. Most of the striper action is taking place on the Sacramento River’s West Bank, Decker Island, Sherman Island and Broad Slough. North of the Rio Vista Bridge off Liberty Island has been very good lately. On the San Joaquin River good catches of striped bass are coming out of False River, West Island area off Antioch and the Upper and Lower Santa Clara Shoals. Most of the action is on the troll and bait dunking at anchor. The thread fin shad being sold at the local bait shops is of high quality and now is the time to start placing some in the freezer, because as we move into the New Year it is going to be difficult to acquire the bait fish. The sturgeon fishing has been off the charts this year with excellent reports coming out of the Pittsburg area and off the Middle Grounds. Striped bass to 20 pourds taken off there Firing Line on live splitttails as well.
