BIG BEAR LAKE FISHING REPORT AUGUST 3, 2008
8-3-2008
Alan Sharp
Trout fishing continued to improve this past week on Big Bear Lake. With surface water temperatures holding at 69 degrees in the western third of the lake and oxygen levels still down, but sufficient, the trout have adjusted to the summer time conditions and are on the bite once again. Late afternoon is the best time to get your limit of quality trout.
Trollers working from Windy Pt. to the dam at three colors with Needlefish in copper and nickel finishes have seen the best action. Bait anglers using a slip bobber with dough baits and night crawlers suspended between fifteen and twenty feet along the North Shore in the same areas are also doing well.
The Graham family from San Diego whacked em good while on a trip with Fish Big Bear Charter Svc. They caught 35 fish while trolling with Curt Dills. Three brothers of the Gillen family from Yucaipa got their limits while bait fishing in the afternoon from a pontoon. Patrick (13 yrs.), Will (11 yrs.), and Jimmie (8 yrs.) will remember their day on Big Bear Lake for a lifetime.
Catfishing remains good in the east end. Fish off the bottom with shrimp, mackerel, or stink baits for singing drags and bent rods.
Don't forget about the other species available on the lake. Summertime species of crappie, bluegill, redear, small and large mouth bass are out there. Lake records have not been established for these species. Catch one of the above and bring it to the official weigh station for your chance at a lake record.
Big Bear Marina and the Big Bear Municipal Water District are proud to announce the first OFFICIAL WEIGH STATION on Big Bear Lake. New LAKE RECORDS will be established! Bring your BIG FISH and QUALITY LIMITS to Big Bear Marina for weigh-in and be eligible for monthly prizes.

Curt Dills of Fish Big Bear Charter Service reported 35 trout caught during a trip on 7/25. WOW! The trout are more active in the late afternoon than in the morning as oxygen levels actually improve during the day. For trollers...... Read More
