Sac Delta Fishing Report

Get your salmon trolling gear and a good selection of spinners and lures together and hit the waters of the Old Sacramento River where the salmon fishing has improved with catches to 30 pounds hitting the decks from the mouth of the Old Sacramento River into the Walnut Grove area.  Shoreline anglers are also picking up increasing numbers of kings tossing out Mepps,  Flying C and Blue Fox spinners from Discovery Park, downstream to Freeport.  Boaters on the troll are using Kwikfish, Brads Cut Plugs and Silvertron Spinners.  Several trollers reported catching striped bass 9 pounds while trolling for salmon near the Isleton Bridge.  The waters have cooled down to 67° and the salmon fishing should be red hot in the coming weeks.  Please note that inland salmon fishing season has a one fish per day daily limit, the only exception is the North and South fork of the Mokelumne River where there is a two fish daily limit.

The Delta striped bass fishing continues to be wide-open on both the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers where trollers and bait dunkers are taking two fish limits regularly.  The best lures on the trolling scene are the Yozuri's in the deep and shallow running models with a white worm trailer.  The stripers continue to show from the Antioch Bridge upstream onto the San Andreas Shoals on the San Joaquin River and the Decker Island and West bank area downstream to Collinsville and the broad slough section of the Sacramento River.  If you are looking for some fresh thread fin shad for bait you might want to check with H&R bait in Stockton where they're receiving about 35 pounds every other day of good-quality shad.  The fall fishing season is in full swing and just in time for the upcoming 71st annual Rio Vista bass derby and festival which takes place this coming October 12, 13 and 14th.
Those interested in sturgeon fishing can find enough action fishing off snag Island or Suisun bay off the Mothball fleet where the action on less windy days has been very good with legal Diamondbacks into the 55 to 58 inch range.
The best dates for sturgeon are eel strips, salmon roe and the basic shrimp baits.  Pick your day on less windy days.
