Shasta is fickle in the fall!
9-29-2018
Jeff Goodwin
Today we fished Shasta Lake and it turned out to be a better day than I expected. With an inbound low pressure system, I feared it might shut down the already slowing bite. Thankfully I was wrong and the fish turned on a few times throughout the day making for a pretty good haul for todays clients. We pretty much stuck to the 100' mark, but did catch our biggest fish of the day at 120'. Water temps on top are around 71 degrees and temps down at 120' are consistent at 61 degrees. The shad schools are massive in size, but the individual shad are measurung under an inch. we're seeing birds and fish working the shad schools near the surface which is pretty normal for this time of the year. Its also the first sign that fall is right around the corner. Its been a while since I got into a brown trout so I'm guessing they are on the move up the arms toeards the spawning grounds. I'm booking brown trout trips on Shasta Lake beginning in November. Several days have already filled so if you want in on the November browns, now is the time to book your trip!
