On August 25, 2018 I took my family out fishing on new Malones reservoir. We launched the boat around 3 PM in the afternoon and after launching we headed to the south end of the lake to fish some submerged islands.

I immediately located large schools of fish in 20 to 40 foot of water. The fish were active as they chased bait to the surface all around our boat. Drop shot rigs, Texas rigged worms, were producing fast and furious action with the majority of the fish eating our baits on the fall.

After catching numerous spotted and largemouth bass, we decided to try another area close to the dam. This particular area was a small cove off the main lake, and there were large rock piles submerged in twenty foot of water.

We were able to catch approximately ten fish a piece off of the rock piles before the fish quit biting. Our largest catch of the day was a 3 1/2 pound spotted bass which had a full grown bluegill choked down her gulet.

Over all it was an awesome relaxing trip with my family, and it’s always a treat to watch my son fish.
