Summer fun on Shasta Lake!
8-6-2018
Jeff Goodwin
Shasta Lake is fishing at its best and yielding lots of bites for those in the know! Fishing the main body of Shasta from the Pit River bridge (I-5) to the dam is all you need to be concerned with. That really shrinks the lake down for the novices or anglers new to the lake. The trout aren't too picky, but if you put out differnt baits and find out what they want, you can make adjustments from there. Often times you will find that they will eat it all. Pautzke Fire Brine shad rolled behind a 4" Fish Flash can be a killer bait on any given day. High percentage baits often include a small dodger and small spoon combo or a small dodger and a 2" PLine sunrise squid. I like to run a smile blade or a spin n glo in front of the squid for some flash and vibration. Colors of blue, white, orange, or pink in any combination will work. 50'-70' feet down will put your baits in the kill zone. If you find a hot bait at a certain depth, stick with it and adjust your other presentations for even more bites! Go get em!
