Shogun Sportfishing Fish Report
7-19-2008
Bruce A. Smith
Today the Shogun fished Guadalupe Island in beautiful, calm seas. Yellowtail were boiling around the boat throughout the day, but were very wary of hooked baits. Several nice sized fish were put on the deck, and many were lost to the rocks as well. There was good sign of fish throughout the day, but the yellows just wouldn't bite. We fished a few spots on the weather side that are usually blown out, Guadalupe is intimidating in its sheer steep cliffs rising straight up into the clouds. We did manage to successfully revive and release a 200# class black sea bass. It was a beautiful sight to see those broad strokes of the tail as it swam back toward the bottom. Right now we are smoothly cruising down swell as a great surf and turf dinner is being served. Tomorrow morning the Shogun will be fishing Cedros where we hope to find yellows a little more eager to bite.
