Lake Jennings Fishing Report

7-17-2018
Lake Jennings Staff

There are reports of lots of big bluegill and redear sunfish hanging around the boat dock, Big Rock and Hermit Cove. Sunfish can be the best fish to catch during the heat of the afternoon. You are sure to catch a few if you bait your hook with a wax or mealworm!

We're seeing some nice bass by the t-dock and near Big Rock being caught on drop shot. Keep an eye peeled for them in Cloister Cove and Shadow Cove, they are biting on nightcrawlers and purple & black rubber worms over there.

Catfish seem to be loving Shadow Cove via boat and this week they are biting on mackerel and hot dogs! Over the weekend, anglers were reeling them in on power bait over in Hermit Cove too--fancy that! Several anglers were even catching limits.

There was 1,000 lbs. of catfish stocked the last two weeks and another 1,000 lbs. are getting delivered again this week! You're bound to go home with a stringer full!

The Catfish Re-opener is this weekend! July 20-22 Boats are available on a first come, first serve basis. Don't miss your chance to reel a few in and catch your limit.

We are halfway through the month of July but still plenty of time to come out to the lake. We're open daily until the end of the month. The hours are Sunday-Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to midnight on Fridays & Saturdays. If you plan on doing some night fishing Friday or Saturday, remember to bring along your full size lantern they are required after 8:00 p.m.

Free boat launches every Tuesday in July. There are three more Tuesdays left, 9/17, 9/24, & 9/31. Come enjoy a day on the lake!

Lake Jennings is a drinking water reservoir and remember, no body contact is permitted. There have been some scorcher days lately but you can keep cool by soaking a bandanna and draping it over your neck or forehead. Mist your clothing and wearing light colors when you're here.

Love camping? The campground has many fun things for children (and kids at heart) to do! Tetherball, life-sized Jenga, Horseshoes, and Corn Hole. There is also a covered playground area available with a swing set for the kids. Head to the Pavilion any day for games like ping pong or foosball! Just call (619) 390-1623 or visit www.lakejennings.org to make your reservations. Weekends go fast so plan ahead. There are plenty available during the week. Come spend a few days with us!
