Fish Report for 7-11-2018
Big Whiskeytown Lake Kokanee today.
7-11-2018
Jeff Goodwin
Today we fished Whiskeytown Lake and found a good morning bite. Steady bites and almost a limit in the box in the first half hour of the day. The bite slowed later in the am, probably due to the boat pressure, and then picked up for us in another location on the lake. We started heading in around noon because of the heat and the lackluster Kokanee activity. The best part of the day was getting into 17"-18" Kokanee and we didnt catch any smaller specimens. We tried a variety of baits and probably got the most bites on pink colors. All but a few Kokanee came from 40-50' deep. I was surprised to see most of our bites came in 57-58 degree water, which is a tad warm for the Kokanee to hold in. Overall Whiskeytown is still worth the trip, but don't expect to knock out quick limits of big fish. Limits are possible for a few anglers, but Its still quality over quantity.
