Right from the gates we jumped into action shaking out the kinks and preparing for big opportunities with some hot and heavy yellowtail fishing. Almost caught off guard by the pace of the catching we settled right in after the first go around and put together a handful of successful stops. A perfect starter kit we pushed west after everyone enjoyed the chance to heave on a few yellows in search of the oh so elusive blue and yellowfin tuna.
They weren’t so elusive to find. In fact they were everywhere, both species. But, true to the pattern of the past four or five days, catching one is far easier said than done. It’s an exercise in patience and perseverance. On a heading that took us miles from the highest concentration of boats we never ran out of fish to look at. Really something. I can only say that though it is a frustrating exercise one can not help but be highly optimistic about the amount of sign around and the potential this represents. These yellowfin in particular are eventually going to get with the program.
Employing a strategy a little different than the recent norm we shut down for the evening in the most beautiful weather one can hope for. Grease calm and balmy a dwindling swell from the dissipating tropical system out west gently reminded us that we are indeed on the Pacific Ocean. After a good night of rest we’ll see what tomorrow brings.
One admin note of huge significance is the receipt of our 2018 authorization to visit Isla Guadalupe. Reports of excellent yellowfin tuna sign at the island have been confirmed. Soon we will begin our voyages west eager to appreciate the fruit of our labors. If there are anglers out there looking to jump on a voyage to the legendary destination of “Clarion North” we have a handful of spaces available on the July 21st - July 28th seven day voyage. If you are interested give Tracy a call in the office or book on line.
Photo today features an archive classic in tribute to Isla Guadalupe. There is much of this to come!
If you would like to go fishing with us please BOOK ONLINE or call (619) 224-4764 to get in on the action.
