Once again, Mother Nature is having some fun with the weather. Dead calm in the morning and not a cloud in the sky – then the clouds form and the breezes starts blowing from the South, but wait, the sun comes back out and it starts snowing, then it’s the battle of the winds – the breezes coming from the South, but now we have a breeze coming from the North – you can see the ripples in the front of the Lake going toward the back and the ripples on the back of the Lake going towards the front and then there’s a ridge where they meet – quite mesmerizing. We had snow flurries, Friday, Saturday and as I write the report it’s coming down again! And as I finish this report – the sun has come back out! Gotta love Mom on her special day!

A few more boats on the Lake this week as well as one of the pontoons, good thing as most of the boats went out this weekend. The top catching tickets would be NightCrawler, PowerBait, Salmon Eggs, Jigs, and Thomas Buoyants. As we are currently on the every other week fish stocking plan thru Memorial Weekend, we got stocked this week – the next stocking should be the week before Memorial Weekend.

Bart Wade was using Gulp! Alive Garlic Infused Floating Pinched Crawler bait when he pulled in a 3-1/2 pound beauty. Mike, Dad (Bob) and Kyle Levindofske celebrated Dad’s 65th birthday on the Lake catching limits and making memories!

The Wrens are still buildings away and we have a few sea gulls that have joined the Eagles at the Lake.

The skeeters are back and they are giganticnormous – hoping that this bit of cooler weather will take care of the big ones and we’ll get to the normal little ones.

A slight chance of showers and thunderboomers look to be in the forecast for the week. Temps remain pretty consistent – in the mid 50s for the highs and the mid 30s for the lows.  You can check out the forecast for the week atwww.weather.gov (enter Aspendell, CA in the search and scroll down to see the temps).

And the hiking conditions:

Talked with some hikers that made it to the George Lake trail and turned around due to snow. Still haven’t talked with anyone that’s made it to Blue Lake yet, but we’ll keep asking. 

Important stuff that just stays in the report for a bit:

People, sure would be nice if y’all would pick up your trash when you leave. It’s really not that hard. Just sayin! If you need something to put it in, come into the store and we’ll give you a bag.

If you catch a big fish or a limit just to have your picture taken for the webpage and then try and give your fish away – we won’t post your picture, but then again we may post it as ‘WASTER OF A PERFECTLY GOOD FISH TO EAT’! Crimp down your barbs, take a picture on the boat and release it for another day.

If you’re hiking stay safe out there. Remember to leave a note about your destination and approximate return time and a clothing description. And please hike with a buddy!

When using the bug juice or hand sanitizer or sunscreen or lotion or cologne or perfume, try not to get it on your hands – you’ll transfer it to your bait and the fish just don’t like any of that foo-foo stuff. Wash your hands in the stream or Lake to get it off, and then use some fish attractant on your hands.

Make sure you wear some kind of sun protection – the sun and reflection off the water and snow will do a number on your skin and eyeballs!
