Well we had several groups down fishing in may and june. It was a little hit and miss but considering we also had one of our worst storms ever fishing wasn't bad. Most of the country got a lot of rain and then some part's on the coast got more then a lot,I guess that's what happen's when you live near the rain forest. I traveled the coast from Golfito to Flamingo fishing last week-end and found everyone out working hard to clean-up and getting things back in shape. Quepos area got hit the hardest but seamed to be back with good spirit's to get things ready for the next season.

Jim Conway was down and staying in the Flamingo area for a few day's with a wedding party of 40 people and enjoyed a couple of day's of fishing. Six of them ventured out for a couple day's on the 60' Bertram out of Flamingo. The first day was a little slow on Bill fishing but they saved the day with a large school of yellow fin tuna. They all enjoyed landing several tuna,and the crew on board sent them back to there hotel with fresh tuna for dinner that night. The second day out they ran across some sails and all managed to land some along with a couple of dorado.

We had several groups fish on one day trip's out of Los Suenos marina and everyone that went off shore enjoyed several sail's,dorado and one nice 350lb Blue Marlin. The group's that fished in shore didn't do as well but still everyone caught fish. There has been report's of some big Rooster's being caught down in the south country fish as large as 70-80 lber's.

Howard Ickes was down from Las Vegas for an 8 day trip and enjoyed Lake Arenal for bass fishing even thow all we could find was little1-3 lber's. We stayed on the house boat and as that was awesome to be that close to the Volcano erupting and the food along with the crew was fantastic. Then we fentured off to the Caribean side of Costa Rica for some Eddy Brown Tarpon fishing and relaxing at the Tortuga Lodge. The weither was very hot and very little breeze but no problem the Tarpon were there and so were we, the first day we had a little trouble getting solid hook up's but did release some fish. The second day Howard and I pulled some tricks out of the bag and he managed to land 12 nice Tarpon along with one very large jack. We then hooked the big one and Howard pulled for what seamed to be forever we would gain and then the fish would gain, well finaly darkness was about to set in and we had to long line release him Eddy estimated the fish to be around 180lb's. Rest assured the next time I venture over that way I will have a large bag of the new trick's along. (THANKS HOWARD) Then off to the pacific side for three more day's were we did quite well on sail's,dorado,tuna and had a Blue Marlin up in the teaser's. Howard had to cry uncle on the tuna everytime we put the gear out and he would sit down we would have 2-3 more on, I am excited to get them in the smoker and have some fresh smoked tuna. Then on our third day the storm set in on us and we tryed for a few hours but the wind blew us off the water,we did manage to raise one sail. So we cut the day short and Howard with his sore muscel's headed back to San Jose for his flight back to the state's.

Last week I headed back to Flamingo to fish with Greg Shaw as he had his heart set on his first sailfish with a fly.Well things kind of worked out as we raised one Blue Marlin and he pulled on him for a while with conventional gear till he got lucky and threw the hook. Then a nice sail teased right to the transom and Greg did a great job of hooking it but the fish got lucky and sawed off out tippet well shit happen's. Then later in the day we got a call that another boat got on to a school of tuna so we headed back out and had a blast hooking one after another on the fly rod's he is looking forward to coming back in 09 and fishing in the Los Suenos area for more billfish.

Bobby McGuinness in Golfito has reported several sail's,dorado on the outside and good Rooster fishing on the inside waters of the South Country. It is coming on the time of year for those big Blues to move in and be jumping on the bit.
