Kokanee action is fair at Whiskeytown
2-20-2018

My clients and I gave Whiskeytown reservoir a go yesterday despite the cold windy conditions. Wind always makes fishing tough and because of the wind it made keeping the Kokanee on the line extremely tough. Anyone that has fished for Kokanee know these little boogers easily get off the hook, so add a fisherman's favorite thing wind to the mix and you can see where I'm headed. We hooked up a solid 16 Kokanee but were only able to land 7. The bite was tough and spread out in the middle part of the lake but it was still fun. The good thing is they are biting and as the weather improves so will the bite. We found fish between 15 and 25 feet most of the day. Trolling Sep"s dodgers with hootchie spinners tipped with Pro-Cure garlic laced corn got the Kokanee interested. It is always good to be out on the water despite non ideal conditions that is what makes fishing fun and a challenge so I'd say from here on out Whiskeytown is worth the effort.
