Glory Hole Fishing Report
12-18-2017
Glory Hole Sports
New Melones Lake level is currently at 1051.20 and 36.80 ft. from full. Water level had dropped to the year low of 1050.00 before rising to current level. Water temperature is 57 d. With the lack of rain, we are watching lake levels for anticipated water releases downstream. Water clarity is excellent, wearing polarized sunglasses will help in targeting those fish in the 10- 20 ft. depth. The lake continues to slowly progress towards turning over which will produce a better angling experience as the fish rise. We like to promote catch and release on New Melones, particularly for the Brown trout. If you do so, provide us a picture and bring it in for a copy or email it to us at gloryholesports@yahoo.com so we can put it on the board, or in the newsletter.
Trout
Thru the first two weeks of December, there have been a number of quality Rainbow trout as well as Brown trout (Brown caught and released) coming to Glory Hole Sports for weigh ins and pictures of these beauties like the ones above brought in on 12/15 by Aaron and Katie Castellon of Stockton, which just stuffed their freezer. They were fishing the 49 bridge trolling a countdown Rapala lure in Rainbow trout at 25 ft. depth when this 8 lb.10 oz. bow slammed their bait. Great stringer of fish!
Aaa yeah we hammer trout this size all the time! 7 lb. 1oz. caught by Mikey of Sonora, Ca. Mikey and sister or girlfriend, don't know which were fishing Glory Hole Point on Dec.16, soaking power bait when they landed these two NICE Rainbow Trout.
We have had numerous limits of trout come in this last week, coming from different areas of the lake, from Angels Creek arm, 49 bridge to Carson Cove.
Glenn Woodbury & Co. pulled this combo out of Angels Creek on the surface, trolling a Rapala in silver with Pro Cure Garlic scent, largest trout weighed in at 6 lbs. 8 oz.
Bass
When it comes to the bass on New Melones you can get quantity along with quality bass using Zoom trick worms at 40 ft. depth as customer Jeremy said he landed 25 bass between himself and his fishing pard. Largest bass was 6.1 lbs. on that outing, most in the 3+ lb. Be patient, slow down your presentation and go fish.
Catfish
Done, but not out. We have had reports of a couple cats come in this last week largest one was at 11+ lbs.
Crappie
Not much to report on the Crappie, the bite has slowed down but don't be surprised to land one while fishing for bass or trout.
