Trinity River steelhead fishing!
11-20-2017
Jeff Goodwin
I had an opportunity to spend a day on the Trinity River fishing for steelhead today and I'm glad I did! I fished with local fishing guides Todd LeBoeuf and Lou Hubert. I don't guide the Trinity river so I relied on the skill and equipment provided by Todd LeBoeuf. With flows from Lewiston Lake running at a mere 300cfs, drifting the upper Trinity in a boat is not for inexperienced dirft boat drivers. Todd uses a very comfortable and well equipped river raft which is very well suited for low water conditions on the shallow riffles and boulder strewn stretches of the upper Trinity River. After making the morning treck to the Douglas City launch, we put in and started our day. The plan was to drift to Junction City making for a full day on the water. Todd's intimate knowledge of the Trinity was evident and he called out just about every spot we hooked fish. We fished plugs all day which was quite effective to say the least and Todd knew just where to present them drift after drift. Lou Hubert occupied the right seat up front next to me and clearly had the hot rod during our float down river. After a very cold and wet trip down river, it wasnt until the take out came into view that Lou and I realized just how cold we were! We managed to put 5 nice hatchery steelhead in the fish box by days end and the fun definitely overshadowed the harsh conditions making for a great day. If you would like to spend a great day on the Trinity River catching steelhead, I highly recommend reaching out to Todd at Tiger T's Guide Service @ http://riverfishingnorcal.com/home. Recent rains are pulling more steelhead up the Trinity every day now so now is the time to book your trip!
