Join Lava Beds Rangers October 28th for a Haunted Cave Tour

NPS

Lava Beds National Monument invites you to join us for our first ever haunted cave tour!  Staff and volunteers are busily preparing one of our most famous caves into a truly unique Lava Beds experience. Throughout the tours, a guide will keep you safe from both the normal and paranormal hazards of the cave; however you are likely to witness several long departed cavers ushering in some mysterious events.

Chief of Visitor Services Patrick Taylor said, "Everyone is looking forward to this event.  Our nearest National Park Service cave site, Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve, has been offering haunted candlelight tours for years and they've been very popular.  We are excited to start that tradition here and share Lava Beds in different way than we have in the past.  Some of the staff we have this year are uniquely qualified to put together this event."

Two guided cave tours will be offered on Saturday, October 28th.  The first tour will begin at 1:00pm and the second at 3:00pm.  Up to 15 people may attend each tour and reservations will be taken by calling (530) 667-8113.  Any unreserved tickets will be handed out on a first come-first served basis on the 28th at the visitor center.  The first program will be family friendly and the second tour will have a few more scares and surprises.  All attendees must be able to comfortably walk and navigate the natural cave terrain on their own, no babies can be carried or in packs. Although there will be no cave crawling on the tour, there will instances of ducking and traversing uneven terrain.  Please wear proper caving footwear.

There is no cost for the event; however the standard park entrance fee of $15 per vehicle is applicable. Indian Well Campground, conveniently located adjacent to the visitor center, will be open on a first come-first served basis. For directions and further information, please call Lava Beds National Monument at 530-667-8113 or visit the website.
