Moon slows Shasta Trout bite down

10-6-2017
Scott Caldwell

The extremely bright full moon phase we are currently in, slowed the Trout action yesterday at Shasta lake. The Trout are still feeding and holding deep in many of the same spots around the lake but because of the super bright full moon phase we are in it has allowed them to feed all night. We also had high winds moving through during the early morning and it was not until after lunch time before they died down. Despite the tough conditions, my client Greg landed a couple really nice Trout and missed a few others. The Bass action is crazy, the small mouth, spots, and largemouth are feeding like crazy and are all over the depth chart. We caught many while trolling between 50 and 110 feet deep. These fish were burping up small minnows and shad. Once the we get past the full moon the bite should get better again.

I am booking trips for Shasta, McCloud and Lake Siskiyou Trout and for the Fall/Winter Steelhead on the Upper Klamath river. Give me a call 530 905 0758 or email me at Scott@Caldwellfishing.com
