Memorial Day on the Pacific Dawn

Memorial Day is a day to reflect on those who have served and are serving and gave their lives and commitment to allow us to do the things we love. Which for this day was to spend a day on the big pond amongst old friends and new friends doing what we love to do. We boarded the Pacific Dawn at 9pm and were greeted by the ever smiling Deckhand's Mike and Opie (the other Mike). After we were all signed in Opie gave us our very thorough safety briefing, Capt Pat Cavanaugh then gave us the plans for the next days fishing, which was to try for some White Seabass at grey light and fill our bags with rockfish. We managed to make some squid early morning, but unfortunately the "Grey Ghosts" were a no show. We then went out into deeper water for some quality rockfishing, and we were not disappointed with the results. We were soon bringing up many quality reds and other assorted rockfish. It didn't take long to fill our bags and then head to a little shallower water for a few whitefish, sheephead and lings. Chef Jim did an outstanding lunch of BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches, I've already requested that he serves them during the SFR 2 day trip in July in San Diego. It was a great day on the water with everyone getting limits of quality rockfish. Congrats to Alec Roehl getting the jackpot Sheephead, he showed dad how it's done. Great Job. Thanks to all who shared the rail, it was a great day and many new friends were made. We can't forget the job Capt Pat and his crew did for us, you made a good day on the water a great day. SFR has on more trip scheduled aboard the Pacific Dawn before they head to San Diego for the summer season, don't miss out on a great trip and sign up soon. If you would like any of these pictures, you can send me an email at john@sportfishingreport.com and I will forward them to you.
