WATCH OUT FOR DEER!

Think it was the last vacation hoorah for many families this past week and weekend before school starts in a couple of weeks – can you believe it? Had a few ThunderBoomers here and there – mostly there as we only got rain on Thursday, but could see it falling all around us. Heard some good Thunder Sunday afternoon, but only got about 4 drops of rain. Sure was hoping to get a bit more to get us over the spillway, only an inch and a half to go!

We knew the awesome catching couldn’t last forever, but it’s slowed down a bit. Now don’t get me wrong the fishing part is still awesome! There are those that are still catching limits, but others are having to work a bit harder and it’s taking a bit longer to fill that stringer – oh darn, a bit more time on the Lake! Fishing the Inlets with NightCrawlers, Salmon Eggs, Jigs and PowerBait. Trolling Flashers (Dave Davis), KastMasters, Thomas Buoyants or just a NightCrawler along the shore or over the rock piles. Just like drifting the Lake, try PowerBait or NightCrawlers by the rock piles. Pretty tough shore fishing as the water is up to the tree line in most places along the shore. Dam fishing or hoofing it back to Cookie’s Point is your best bet – might try PowerBait, NightCrawlers or MiceTails. Got a load of DFW fish on Wednesday.

Michael Bowman paid attention to fishing lessons taught by Grandpa Skip Schaefer and landed himself a 5-1/4 pound beaut using a Rapala. Mason Fite (8 years old) bested his sisters Taren and Davin using a Jig to bring in a 3 pound Rainbow. A SuperDuper worked in a combined effort to catch a 3 pounder for Connolly Stice and Tom Littlejohn. Limits galore for Rod Hill, Trevor Hill and Kevin McGuire using just NightCrawlers and red and white bobbers at the Inlet (my favorite way to fish).

ThunderBoomers are in the forecast for the next week and weekend, so pack that raingear and don’t forget a jacket – the sun goes behind a ThunderBoomer cloud and it gets downright chilly – add a bit of moisture to that and its positively cold. So the weather predictors have a 10 degree spread on temperatures this week – one calling for highs to be in the high-70s, the other for highs to be in the high-60s to low-70s. Lows are about the same also – mid-50s to mid-40s. Both have ThunderBoomers in the forecast. Check www.weather.gov – enter Aspendell, CA, in the search field and scroll down a bit – I used this website for the first forecast – we’ll see which one is closer.
 

Keeping this info on the report:

It’s a pet peeve of mine that if you catch a big fish or a limit just to have your picture taken for the webpage and then try and give your fish away – we won’t post your picture, but then again we may post it as ‘WASTER OF A PERFECTLY GOOD FISH TO EAT’! Crimp down your barbs, take a picture on the boat and release it for another day.

Still big issues with skeeters, when using the bug juice, try not to get it on your hands – you’ll transfer it to your bait and the fish just don’t like bug juice or sunscreen or lotion or cologne or perfume. Wash your hands in the stream or Lake to get it off, and then use some fish attractant on your hands. If you’re coming to the Lake, don’t forget sunscreen and dark glasses –the snow and sun makes it pretty bright against the blue sky. DON’T FORGET THAT JACKET.

People, sure would be nice if y’all would pick up your trash when you leave. It’s really not that hard. Just sayin! If you need something to put it in, come into the store and we’ll give you a bag.

If you’re hiking stay safe out there. Remember to leave a note about your destination and approximate return time and a clothing description. And you might want to hike with a buddy. Too many search and rescues this year.

Fishing etiquette is becoming a bit of a problem at the Lake and we don’t like problems. If you come upon someone fishing, please don’t fish right next to them – take a bit of hike farther down and don’t cast over into their spot. Same at the Inlet, there are so many areas to fish on this Lake go find another ‘soon to be’ favorite spot.
