Fish Report for 7-1-2017

Cisco’s Report: Sunday July 1st

7-1-2017
Channel Islands Sportfishing

July is finally here and with it high hopes of true summer conditions and biting Yellowtail. On this, the first day of July we had warmer than normal temperatures but the sun was reluctant to come out. Patchy cloud cover only held the heat in and made for very muggy conditions. The water temperatures are also on the rise because one of our captains reported 70 degree surface temps at one of the islands. As for fishing today, it was reported to be highly productive. Most of our trips were private charters in search of some fish to take home and eat, thus we took them bottom fishing for nice Reds and other species like Whitefish and Lingcod. Some of our anglers were hoping for a big Yellowtail or White Seabass bite but we saw few bites this morning. Conditions are changing for the better though, so stay tuned and be ready for it to “go off” again. The summer is young and with every passing day we are seeing more and more fish show up at out islands. Today’s Fish Count: 10 Boats and 236 Anglers 1,337 Rockfish, 64 Lingcod, 823 Ocean Whitefish, 11 Sheephead, 7 Sculpin, 32 Perch, 5 Sand Bass, 40 Calico Bass, 10 Barracuda, 6 Sole, 1 Halibut, and 2 Yellowtail.
