San Clemente Island aboard El Dorado

I was lucky enough to fish with Capatain Eddie Moreno and crew aboard the El Dorado for an overnight charter to San Clemente Island. It is always a pleasure to fish aboard the El Dorado with Captain Moreno and his experienced crew and this trip was no exception. The gang from Kichi Gai were aboard and from the stories these guys were telling one would be hard pressed to find a more experienced group of anglers anywhere. Some fishing stories never get old do they ? Except Homans'! We fished the south side San Clemente Island with nice sardines and live squid in clean but sub-60 degree water. The gang caught some nice calicos and a few bottom grabbers but conditions were tough with chilly water and slack tides. A school of yellows popped up on the outside so we pulled anchor and headed to the area. Rudy Lopez was able to hook and land a nice yellowtail on a surface iron but that was the only one we could get to bite. Great job Rudy !!!! We spent the rest of the day picking at the calicos before giving a few rockfish drifts a try. Captain Moreno and crew were awesome as always and they are online for overnight trips from Berth 55 in Long Beach before heading to San Diego for the tuna season. Check out their website@www.boateldorado.com for their updated schedule or call Long Beach Sportfishing Beth 55 at 1-562-432-8993.
