Royal Polaris Crew
Over the next 4 weeks we plan on keeping you posted on the progress of RP
yearly maintenance.
The big news, this year is we are installing three new main engines and
two new generators, plus a complete
refurbishing of the engine room.
The engines are Cummins QSK19-M electronic with 600 hp each at 1800 rpm.
They are turbocharged/low temperature after cooled.
The new generator sets are John Deere 110kw units.
Approximate cost of this maintenance period, including the new engines:
Main engines: $274,000.00
Generators: $58,000.00
Installation and refurbish
Engine room: $85,000.00
Haul out, painting &
General repairs: $55,000.00
Total:$472,000.00
In addition to the re-power:
1. Painting the entire hull.
2. Painting outside bridge area.
3. Painting bottom.
4. Varnishing throughout boat.
5. Three new propellers.
6. New fuel system.
7. Renewing entire engine room CO2 system.
8. Installing a new Furuno state of the art meter.
9. Installing all new gauges & displays in bridge.
10. Replacing some Teak rail.
11. Repairs to ovens & burners in Galley.
12. Going through a long list of repairs and replacement of
items in Staterooms & Heads.
13. Repairs in fish wells to make RSW tanks more efficient.
14. There is more & I will report as we progress.

| 6:00am | Royal Polaris returns to Fisherman?s Landing with a beautiful catch of YFT and Wahoo. 10 YFT are over 200# and one YFT is 331#. |
| 9:15am | RP leaves dock for a sea trail with bait tanks and slammers loaded. Mechanics and Cummins marine people aboard. |
| 10:00am | Arrive at fuel dock and pump oil out of center main engine and one auxiliary to begin dismantling. |
| 10:30am | Arrive back at the Landing ? and fun begins. Three welders from
Billy Santiago Sr?s welding company begin cutting three holes in deck
(approximately 4 1/2 feet wide x 6 feet long.). All ceiling insulation removed in engine room. Tom Dale, our mechanic, starts dismantling center
main engine, auxiliary, all exhausts, fuel lines, water lines, etc. Crewmembers start using ?obnoxious? jack hammer to
remove deck material so welders can cut aluminum. Four crewmembers begin covering all floors in
Galley and Heads. Sanders, paint, tools, etc. are organized in Galley. |
| 1:00pm | Four crewmembers cover bridge area and begin sanding. |
| 7:00pm | All three holes are cut with a lifting eye welded to each piece.Center main and one auxiliary are ready to come out of boat. 75% of bridge area sanded. |
On Thursday at 6:30 am we will depart Fisherman?s Landing and head to the
boat yard.
