Hi gang,

We departed on our first trip of the season on the night of the 27th. After spending the better part of 2 months working hard on a number of projects, the boat looks amazingly clean and we are ready to fish. After putting on a good load of sardine, we boarded our customers and departed shortly after 8pm. The local Bluefin grounds will be our destination this trip and after a detailed tackle seminar, everyone is rigged and ready for the fishing day to come. We located our first school of fish right at first light and we hooked a fish almost immediately after stopping. Karen Warner hooked up fishing a Shimano flatfall jig and after 30 minutes of the fight, it was clear that she hooked a bigger fish. Another hour and the fish was at gaff. On the deck it taped out at 180 pounds. Impressive. Spiked, bled, gilled, gutted, and submersed in 29 degree RSW. We located another school shortly after getting underway, no bites. This was a common theme through out the day. We did see a few spots of larger fish, some over 100 pounds, one spot of 60 to 80 pounders, none of which responded to our offerings. We managed 2 more fish for the day, both were bluefin tuna in the 30 pound class. Our weather today was just ok as we had 10 knots of wind all day. Not that it was rough, but this early season bluefin tuna is typically weather sensitive and we seem to have better success with less wind on the water. Overall we had a great day, got to spend the day on the water fishing with an awesome group of anglers. The weather forecast is much better for the rest of the week and we have high hopes for the trips coming up. Our next 1.5 day trip has openings and if you want a chance at some early season bluefin tuna, you can book online right on our website. The boat ran flawless on our first trip, no hiccups. The food that our chefs prepared was nothing less than 5 star. We are excited about the rest of the week. Captain Bill Cavanaugh and the Intrepid Team.
