Channel Islands Sportfishing
On day two of Memorial Day Weekend (Sunday) we again had great weather and some pretty good fishing. It was a little windy crossing the channel, but behind the islands it was absolutely beautiful! Conditions changed for the better today as the water temperatures all month have been 55 degrees, but today they jumped almost 10 degrees. One of our captains reported arriving at Anacapa Island this morning and the sea surface temperature was 61 degrees. By the end of the afternoon the water had warmed to 64.5 degrees! He also noted that the water was crystal clear and full of life, seeing the bottom with detail in 40 feet of water. It is after all, the end of May and the beginning of June which has always been known as one of the best game fishing months at the Channel Islands. We are hopeful things will blow wide open soon, so be ready!
We will be back out on the water tomorrow (Memorial Day) and believe it or not, we have plenty of open spots for fishing. In fact, it’s not looking like a busy day at all SO if you can get away come fishing!
Today’s Fish Count: 11 boats and 280 anglers.
2,532 Rockfish, 79 Lingcod, 204 Ocean Whitefish, 19 Sheephead, 25 Sculpin, 2 Cabezon, 4 Barracuda, 31 Calico Bass, 1 Halibut, 1 Sole, 2 Yellowtail, and 3 White Seabass.
