Big flows still on the Truckee River

We’re right around 3,800-4000 k every day here in the Hirsch. Better than 5,500 k, which it was just recently. 4,000 k opens up a little more water, but not much. Clarity is good and all, but the water is still very high. The river really hasn’t come up with the warm weather.

We’ve been catching fish. In fact some days it’s been going off. Instead of mostly browns, rainbows are showing up again hungry after their spring spawn. Finding soft water is the key. Way more easily said than done at these flows.

Bugs galore now. March browns, blue wing olives, skwalas, but you will not see any fish on top at these flows. Nymphing and streamer fishing is the game. Get your nymphs and streamers in the zone and do not be afraid to loose lot’s of flies. I’ve gone through hundreds with clients this spring. If you ain’t rubbing you ain’t racing.

So we have a while to go for flows to drop. 2000 k is going to seem low after 4000 k. Normal seasonal flows should happen in July. I’m guessing around the second week of July.
