SFR Pacific Dawn Charter: Easy Limits of Santa Rosa Rockfish
5-2-2008
Don Padick
The Sportfishingreport.com charter aboard the Pacific Dawn with Captain Pat Cavanaugh and crew produced limits of great quality Santa Rosa Island rockfish for the 18 anglers aboard. Captain Pat Cavanaugh, Captain Dustin Selck, Mike Ridel, Mike Nickerson and Jimmie Colburn make up this years Pacific Dawn crew and their dedication and enthusiasm really shine through creating a memorable fishing experience for all. A rough ride out of the harbor resulted in a few problems, however the weather man cooperated and we were greeted with ideal conditions at Santa Rosa Island. We fished the seabass grounds in the morning for nada, scanned Beecher's Bay for squid, before moving around to the front side of Santa Rosa for some quality rockfishing. We spent the day hauling up big fat reds, chuckles, lings and other assorted rockfish from 80 to 300 feet of water. Another awesome day at the islands !!! It was looking like a free-for-all for jackpot honors with no clear cut leader late in the day. That was before Gary Lai's big sheephead hit the decks on one of the last drifts of the day. Way to go Gary !!!! The crew was awesome as always. Thanks Guys !!!! The Pacific Dawn is running out of Ventura Harbor before moving down to San Diego for the Tuna season.
