South Lake Fishing Report
4-28-2008
Jared Smith
Conditions couldn't have been better for the Trout Opener in the Bishop Creek Canyon. Cold windy conditions early in the week gave way to beautiful warm weather for the weekend. South Lake had a good 2 feet of solid ice covering the majority of the lake which drew quite a crowd of ice fisherman. It's estimated that 75 anglers were on the ice by mid-Morning on Saturday, and the fishing was solid. Limits were the rule for most anglers so those that put the effort into drilling a hole in the ice were rewarded. Worms, Rainbow Powerbait, Brown Mini-Jigs and vertical jigged gold Kastmasters were the most productive baits on the opener. Plenty of chunky rainbows were caught including four hefty Alpers trout from 4lbs to 5lbs.
