"The striper bite on the Sac here in Colusa, Ca  has ben RED HOT for about a week now. I had limits be for 8:00 am two days this week and limits through out the week. All the other guides that fished here around the Colusa area did well also, showing that a significant amount of bass have moved into the area." Reports Sacramento River striped bass fishing guide Mike Rasmussen. Owner of SalmonSacRiver.com. Mike's fishing report from the Sacramento River in Colusa, Ca was given live this morning from anchor above the Colusa State Park, where Rasmussen already had two nice linesides to 24 inches in his fish box. Mike also reported doing his first night trip for striped bass last night as a wave of bab;y salmon (smolt) had made their way into the Colusa area yesterday, following their release from Colman National Fish Hatchery in Cottonwood, Ca on Friday March 31, 2017. A test release of 2 million smolt was done by Colman prior to the bulk release schedualed for later this month. With the heavy night time feeding frenzy that takes place when the smolt are migrating under the cover of darkness, Rasmussen went out and set anchor on a pinch point last night about dark. He reported great success with the overnight trip using 7 inch white swimbaits behind the boat in shallow water. Landing his six keeper bass to 7 pounds. Unfortunately for Northern California anglers we are staring down the barrel of yet again a monster Pacific Storm that has its crosshairs set here on the Sacramento Valley. High Winds to 60mph and a 7 ft river rise schedualed to hit the Colusa, Ca bridge gauge on Sunday April 9, 2017. This storm will certainly put the striped bass bite on hold for the Sacramento River until sometime next week when Rasmussen will report back as action heats back up. At which time the action should be lights out. Rasmussen and Northern California fishing guide John Pearl have openings that can still be grabbed for the remainder of the season.

Mike has called Northern California home his whole life. Fishing the streams of the eastern sierras for trout and the Russian river for steelhead as a young boy, his passion for fishing and the outdoors consumed his childhood as knowledge was gained. Attending high school in Corning, Ca, Mike also spent a great deal of time on the banks of the Sacramento river, chasing Salmon, Steelhead, American Shad and Striped Bass. Mike was fortunate enough to have been taught by some experienced guides that have since passed. Now a guide himself over the last decade, he prides himself on providing a comfortable, fun and enjoyable experience for all those he guides. You will not find another guide in Northern California as devoted as Mike and that spends the amount of time on the water as he does. It definitely shows at the end of the day when the fish are counted.
