On January 5, American Angler skipper Sam Patella docked the rig at Pt. Loma Sportfishing. His 24 anglers enjoyed a ten-day trip that produced another 300-pounder and five yellowfin tuna over 200 pounds.

Wally Kakemoto of Milli Lani, HI found that big one, which weighed 343 pounds on the boat, before it was gilled and gutted for the refrigerated sea water hold.

"My best fish before this was a 72-pound tuna," said Wally. "This is my first ten-day trip. My longest trip before this was a five-day. "I'd like to thank Taro the deckhand," continued Wally, "for helping me. The fish bit at 200 yards, and then he took another 200. He took me up to the bow, but he came up in the stern."

Kakemoto said he baited a sardine on a 7/0 Eagle Claw hook. He fished with 130-pound Izorline and 130-pound Power Pro Spectra backing on a TLD 50 reel and a Seeker 6465 XXH rod. The fight lasted an hour and a half.

Gary Sos of Spring Vslley won second place for a 231-pounder. He got that one with a sardine on a 6/0 ringed Mutu hook, 130-pound Jin Kai and 130-pound Power Pro Spectra on an Accurate 50 reel and a 6465 XH rod. Gary's 14-year-old son Cody ggot a 174-pounder

Jeff Taylor of Forest Grove won third place for a 219.5-pound tuna.

"He fought way harder than I expected," said Jeff. "He's my best tuna ever. He fought like a halibut on steroids."

Taylor used a sardine on an 8/0 Eagle Claw hook, with 130-pound Izorline and 130-pound Izor Spectra on am Avet 50 reel and a Seeker 6463 XXXH rod.

Jim Stein got a 261-pounder on the kite.

Adam Farid of Northridge bagged his first cow, a 205-pounder, "?Ķafter eight years of trying," he said. "But it was worth it."

Adam baited a sardine on a 6/0 ringed Super Mutu hook tied to 130-pound Izorline and 130-pound Spectra on an Avet 50 reel and a Seeker 655 XXH rod.
